Medical Disclaimer
BioWellix publishes health information for education. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for being examined by someone qualified to treat you. Please read this page before acting on anything you find here.
Effective
This is information, not advice
Everything on BioWellix — articles, summaries, FAQs, calculators and newsletters — is general information published for a general audience. It describes what research and clinical guidelines say. It does not tell you what is wrong with you, and it does not tell you what to do about it.
Only a clinician who can take your history, examine you and see your test results can give you medical advice. Nothing here can do that, because nothing here knows anything about you.
In an emergency
Symptoms that need urgent assessment include chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or numbness on one side, confusion, severe or sudden pain, uncontrolled bleeding, and thoughts of harming yourself. This list is not complete, and an article on this site is not the place to decide whether your symptoms qualify.
What “Medically Reviewed” means — and what it does not
Many of our articles carry a medical reviewer's name and credentials. That means a qualified clinician read the article and checked that it fairly represents current evidence and guidelines at the time it was reviewed.
It does not mean any of the following:
- That the reviewer has assessed you, or knows anything about your health.
- That the reviewer is your doctor, or is available to answer questions about your case.
- That the article covers every situation, exception or interaction that might apply to you.
- That the evidence has not moved since the review date shown on the article.
- That the reviewer endorses any product, brand or supplement mentioned.
Articles without a reviewer's name have not been through that check. Either way, the review is a quality control step for the writing. It is not care, and it creates no relationship between you and the reviewer.
No doctor–patient relationship
Reading this site, subscribing to the newsletter, using a calculator or emailing us does not create a doctor–patient relationship, or any other professional relationship, between you and BioWellix, its writers, or its medical reviewers.
We cannot answer personal medical questions, and we will not try. If you write to us describing symptoms, we will tell you to see a clinician — that is the only responsible answer we can give.
Calculators are estimates
The calculators on this site apply published formulas to the numbers you type in. They are rough population-level estimates, not measurements, and not diagnostic tools.
- BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, and misclassifies athletes, older adults, and some ethnic groups.
- Energy and calorie estimates are averages; individual metabolic rates vary widely around them.
- None of these results can tell you whether you are healthy, and none of them replace a clinical assessment.
Treat any result as a conversation starter with a clinician, not a verdict.
Supplements, dosages and products
Where we describe a supplement or a dose, we are reporting what studies used or what guidelines say. We are not prescribing it for you, and we do not recommend specific brands or products.
Supplements are regulated far more loosely than medicines in most countries. Purity, dose and content vary between products, statements about them are generally not evaluated by any medicines regulator, and they can interact with prescription drugs. Ask a pharmacist or doctor before adding one.
Your situation is not the average
Health research describes what happened to groups of people on average. You are not an average. Age, sex, genetics, pregnancy, existing conditions, medications and circumstances all change what applies to you, and none of them are visible to us.
Evidence also moves. An article reflects the research available when it was written or last reviewed; the date is shown on every article so you can judge how current it is. We correct articles when we learn they are wrong, but we cannot promise every page is up to date at the moment you read it.
Advertising and outside links
This site carries advertising, and adverts are selected automatically by Google rather than chosen by us. An advert appearing next to an article is not an endorsement, and we do not vet advertised products for safety or effectiveness.
We link to outside sources — studies, guidelines and health bodies — so you can check our work. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content.
Limitation of liability
You use this site, and anything you find on it, at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, BioWellix and everyone who writes for or reviews content on it are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from your use of the site or from any decision you make based on it.
Some countries do not allow certain liability to be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and for fraud. Nothing on this page removes a right you have that cannot lawfully be removed.
